CCSignatureCheck.org Launches Credit Card Protection Service for Merchants and Banks
May 14, 2004 -- With the rise of consumer fraud and identity theft, eTAO Group, LLC has launched CCSignatureCheck.org, a new service aimed at merchants and banks in an effort to enforce identity checks with all credit card purchases. This new service complements the existing public web site where consumers report merchants who do not check their signature/identity when making a purchase with their credit card.
Each year over $1 billion U.S. is lost due to credit card fraud, an astounding loss that is passed along to consumers in the form of higher interest rates, annual fees and late charges. In an effort to help reduce this fraud, CCSignatureCheck.org was created to allow consumers to report merchants who do not check signatures or identities when using a credit card for their purchase. In just a few short weeks over $4,400 potential credit card fraud was reported through CCSignatureCheck.org. Consumers may request free "I Participate With CCSignatureCheck.org" stickers for the back of their credit cards to notify merchants of their commitment to reduce credit card fraud.
To close the fraud prevention cycle, CCSignatureCheck.org has launched a web engine to allow merchants and banks to monitor reports pertaining to each entity. Registered merchants may view all reports for their particular store location while banks may monitor all reports registered with their bank card – and receive instant notification emails when a new report is entered.
Confidentiality is a high priority for CCSignatureCheck.org, ensuring names, addresses, phone numbers and email addresses are not disclosed to merchants or banks without the consumer's consent. Merchants and banks may contact consumers based upon individual reports and only through the CCSignatureCheck.org web site, allowing consumers to either grant the request to contact them or deny the request and keep their contact information confidential.
